COVID-19 UPDATE: We are now offering sessions online & twice weekly Facebook lives.

Join us over on our Cup-O-T Community Facebook group for twice weekly Facebook Lives that offer strategies and discussions on ways to look after your physical and mental health.

We are currently offering 30 minute appointments to manage your mental health, anxiety, stress and routine during the pandemic. These sessions are £20 and can take place on the telephone or as a video-call. We are continuing to offer occupational therapy and EMDR assessments and therapy sessions via video-call.

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an advanced psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. It recommended by the UK’s National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. EMDR can also be used to overcome low self esteem, anxiety, reoccurring depression and other conditions by processing memories that have contributed to the negative sense of self you have today.

The treatment will consist of several sessions which are 60-90 minutes long, dependent on the nature of the problem. In the case of a single trauma sustained in adulthood, there will be 1 or 2 assessment sessions, followed by 1 or 2 sessions discussing and preparing for EMDR treatment, using some preliminary exercises (e.g. safe place imagery), and at least 1 or 2 treatment sessions.

The number of actual treatment sessions will again depend on the nature and number of distressing memories or nature of the problem.
