Occupational Therapy

At Cup-O-T our team are able to provide occupational therapy services in person at our therapy woodlands, in community locations, from our therapy van and online.

Occupational therapy can be offered as 1-2-1 therapy sessions or as one of our group occupational therapy programmes.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy (OT) is a science degree-based, health and social care profession, regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council. Occupational therapy takes a “whole-person approach” to both mental and physical health and enables individuals to achieve their full potential.

Occupational Therapy can help you manage your life and mental wellness in a variety of ways.  ‘Occupation’ refers to the things you do day to day. This might be self care activities, work/education or things that you enjoy.

Occupational Therapy works with you to build skills to enable you to complete the activities of daily living that you need or want to do. It also helps you to adapt the activity or environment that you do it in.

For example someone with anxiety may need to do their weekly food shop and want to join a choir to sing with, but their anxiety is preventing them from doing both of these. An Occupational Therapist can work with this person to achieve their goals one step at a time by creating a personalised treatment intervention programme. This may focus on teaching anxiety management skills and techniques, introducing a routine and structure to manage time – making doing activities feel more possible, or even adapt the environment to enable the person to physically do the activities.

Occupational Therapy Groups

There will be an initial assessment session where we will identify the current areas of difficulty and set goals. We will give you questionnaires to complete that will help us to measure any changes that happen through therapy.

In your assessment session we will identify your goals for the group. Following this you will join the group programme. Your goals will be reviewed as the group progresses and at the end of the group programme.
