A drawing workshop with The Wayward Adventures Guild

Creator of the Wayward Adventurers Guild Jasmine O’Hare reflects on her time with us at our family session, fully funded by Norfolk Community Foundation through the Love Norfolk Fund.

Last Thursday I was very fortunate to run a drawing workshop for Cup O-T, as part of their family day at their campfire community space. It’s a beautiful and peaceful spot among the trees, tucked away on the outskirts of Wymondham.

Using charcoal created at the site by previous participants, we drew woodland dragons inspired by the shapes and textures of pinecones and the trees round us.

I’ve run this session a few times, and this one was the most experimental and playful. Both adults and children got absorbed in their drawings, taking rubbings from bark and pinecones and covering them in charcoal to draw with.

I think the setting and structure set out by Catherine and Lily helped participants to feel comfortable and confident.

Participants had the freedom to try a number of activities and to settle into the session in their own time. You could sit in front of the fire or go for a walk through the trees until you were ready to try something. From charcoal making to den building, drawing to collecting nature’s treasures, there were activities to suit everyone.

The Wayward Adventurers Guild helps adults and children to create their own fantastical worlds, characters and stories through regular workshops, events and monthly subscriptions. Find out more: Website | Instagram | Facebook
