Day 1 – THIS IS ME! #Childrensmentalhealthweek

Today is the first day of #Childrensmentalhealthweek. The theme this year is Express Yourself. So we have come up with some fab activities to help you to do this.

Here’s what we have planned for the rest of the week…

Day 1 – THIS IS ME!

The key to happiness – becoming content and comfortable with who you are. We are all different. We are all AMAZING!

You are in control of your own happiness, your are strong and you are smart. You have an INCREDIBLE ability to stretchhhhhh like an elastic band when things are tough and BOUNCE back again. This is how we manage stress – and we all manage in different ways. These 2 activities will help you to learn about yourself – what makes you HAPPY and what your BOUNCE back STRENGTHS are!

Collage of Happiness!

Let’s think about ALL the things that make you HAPPY. Close your eyes and spend a few minutes thinking about…
*The big things
*The small things
*Think about stuff that doesn’t cost money
*Hobbies and things you like to do
*People you like to be with
*Pets and animals
*Places
*ALL the stuff you LOVE.

Grab a piece of paper and pens. Create a collage of the things that make you SMILE. You could write them in different colour pens, stick down photos or draw them. Use LOTS of colour and FILL all the space. If you’re finding it hard to think of things, set a timer for 3 minutes. This will make your brain go FASTER!

Now look at your collage. How does it make you feel? When did you last do the things in your collage that make you happy?

Put your collage on the wall or in a place where you can see it – a reminder of what makes you happy, what makes you amazing, what you can do to BOOST your mood!

We would LOVE to see your Collage of Happiness – share them on social media (or ask an adult to) and tag us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

Hand of Strengths

Lets notice what we are GOOD at – then we can then use this as a STRENGTH when things are hard. Sometimes it can be hard to think what our strengths are – especially when we compare ourselves to others. Comparing ourselves STEALS our happiness! We need to stop doing it and CELEBRATE OUR AMAZINGNESS!

Draw around your hand or use this one…

Think about…
*What makes you unique
*What sets you apart from others
*You hobbies, school, things you do for other people.

Don’t forget about things you do for other people – helping, being kind, making them smile. These are SO IMPORTANT!

Here are some other prompts….
*This is what my friends like about me……………………………………
*I am proud of………………………………………
*My family were happy when I……………………………………
*I am good at……………………………….

If you’re REALLY stuck – ask your friends and family – they will see things about you that you might sometimes forget. ALSO don’t forget to tell them what their STRENGTHS are and why they are AMAZING!

Don’t forget to have a look at your Hand of Strengths often – try and pick one of them to practice doing it more. The more we practice them, the better we can use them.

Day 2… Growing with others – It’s not all about me!
